Mark Rothko was born in Dvisk, Russia, on September 25, 1993 Raised in an educated family with Zionist tendencies. At the age of 10 years Rothko and his family immigrated to America in 1924 and enrolled at the Art Students League later in 1929 Rothko taught children at the Academy of Jewish Center Brooklyn Center, retained that position for more than twenty years.




The first solo exhibition in 1933 at the Museum of Art in Portland and a few months later the exhibition at the Gallery of Contemporary Art. In 1968 Rothko was elected to the National Institute of Arts and Letters. The following year received an honorary degree from Yale University as a Doctor of Fine Arts. In 1970 Rothko committed suicide in his studio.
